I'm a native of Philadelphia, Miss., and I lived all but one year of my life in Mississippi. I received my degree in physical education from Mississippi State University in 1983, and coached for one year before nearly starving to death on an educator's pay. So I returned to journalism, a career I started in high school as a photographer for The Neshoba Democrat. Two newspaper later, I arrived at The Clarion-Ledger in 1990. And with the exception of 1 year, I've been here since. I have a wife and two children, and I live in Brandon.
Running is one of my passions. I've completed four marathons and I'm training for a fifth. In January, I plan to run the Mississippi Blues Marathon, and next November I will run the New York Marathon. All this in preparation for a 54-mile ultra in South Africa, if all goes well.
