Dara Torres, an Olympic swimmer, seems to be defying all the rules concerning age, exercise, sport and performance.

How does she do it? An old saying states, "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you are right." Torres obviously believes in herself and psychology is just as important as anatomy and physiology in any sport.

  • Encouragement can come from a good many places, but my favorite is results. This week has been a good one for me as far as visible, if small, results go. • Today's 20-mile run went well. The weather was nearly perfect, and I had no physical issues. The pain in my calf muscle from a couple of weeks ago did not rear its ugly head today. That's a huge boost to my confidence.

If I can run this well on race day, I might be able to break the four-hour mark. The Blues course is very hilly, so my time may be a little slower than on my training runs.

  • I wish I had a bigger house and more money, because if I did I would have 1 or even 2 exercise rooms filled with stuff I bought off infomercials. Armed with these fat burning, easy to use with little effort, take off the inches machines, I would be guaranteed or my money back to lose weight and look like the guy on the Bowflex commercial.
