Add some spice to your workout

All my friends know that despite the fact I am a fitness professional, I don't ride bikes. Don't get me wrong though. I think bikes are an excellent way to get fit, plus they are eco-friendly. I just don't enjoy riding them.
My point is, many people do not exercise because they have not found an activity they like. The fact you hate walking and jogging shouldn't deter you from aerobic exercise because there are so many other forms of this valuable activity.
What about swimming, the stair-stepper, rower, elliptical trainer and jump rope? Can't stand lifting weights? Today the trend is to forgo traditional weightlifting anyway. New methodologies of strength training actually encourage variety, being outdoors and using various strength training techniques such as swinging a hammer on a tire, climbing a rope or cargo net and lifting odd objects such as stones and beer kegs.
How about adding fitness to your golf game by not using a cart or actually walking on your next hunting or fishing trip (giving up the four-wheeler)? Even the security staff at many malls use scooters now, and it makes me wonder how many pounds of fat they have gained since they stopped walking so much?
Ask any fitness staff member at a wellness center or gym about why the retention rate is so poor at fitness facilities. A common answer is that new members are bored with their workout or hate it to the point of quitting. Surely there is some exercise or activity that you will like if you give it time. Ask the fitness staff at your gym or wellness center for advice. Also, watch the fitness channels on TV as they offer excellent advice and options. It may just take some innovative thinking to spice up your fitness life.
