Moms in Motion keeps mothers-to-be fit during pregnancy

Pregnancy is no reason for women to stop working out.
Expectant mothers at least 12 weeks into their pregnancy can participate in “Moms in Motion,” an aquatic aerobics class that meets twice a week at St. Dominic’s HealthLine Wellness Center.
Before getting started, they must have their physician’s consent, said Thomas Rush, aquatics coordinator.
“They can bring water shoes,” he said. “Sometimes that’s more comfortable to the moms. We’ve got towels in our facility that we provide.”
The no-impact workout increases strength and flexibility, he said.
“It’s a really good cardio with no stress on them at all,” he said.
Participants can work out in shallow or deep water, and ability to swim is not a prerequisite. Some participants join the class to continue their regular workout routines during pregnancy, but if you’re not already fit, you can still join.
“It’s a safe way to exercise in the water without being on a treadmill or a bike that could be harmful to you and your baby,” Rush said. “It’s no impact, and it’s also a time to relax.”
The class meets from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and is free to moms delivering at St. Dominic. For more information, call (601) 200-4925 or visit http://www.stdom.com/services/womens-services/having-a-baby/education-an....
