I Got A Wii And It’s Helping Me To Lose Weight

I bought a Wii Video Game System for Christmas and I am having a blast. The funny part about it is that me and my wife are 53 years old and my son who is 26 lives with us, but he is a Playstation 3 person.

What really intrigued me about the Wii was the Wii Fit game. Wii Fit comes with a balance board and you play the game by exercising. My wife was intrigued with the bowling game and neither one of us are video game people. I was a big Pac Man fan in the oldin days, but I am not that good with the newer games. So it was agreed, we would get a Wii for Christmas. So we are off to Best Buy.

The Best Buy on County Line Rd was out of Wii’s. Bummer, I was ready to bowl. We then headed for the one on Lakeland and we got the 2nd to last one. Yea! If you are wanting to get a Wii, don’t be fooled by the $249.00 price tag. That comes with 1 sports game, and 1 controller. We needed 2 more controllers, at $39.00 a piece and 2 more controllers called a nuncuck at $29.00 a piece. It was recommended we get a battery charger because the controllers eat batteries. We needed 2 of those at $39.00 a piece since the chargers only charge 2 controllers. Covers for the remote controllers so they don’t slip out of your hand at $10.00. I felt like we also needed the Sports Pack, which is a Nerf baseball bat, tennis racket, and golf club to attach to the controller for a more realistic play, 3 of them at $39.00. The Wii Fit game was $89.00. Now I’m ready. Well kind of, I only have 2 games, but one of them had bowling so we were set.

If you are not familiar with the Wii System, with the Wii you don’t just hit buttons on a controller, you actually go through the motions and a sensor which sits on the top of the TV reacts to your motion. So when you bowl, you line up in front of the TV and bowl just like you are at the Bowling Alley. When my wife first started, she had a hook to the left just like she does at the real Bowling Alley. It’s amazing. Tennis will wear you out, just like real tennis. When playing golf I am in the woods, just like real life. I am getting better. The only thing that’s not like real life, my wife has the high score in bowling, 263.

The Wii Fit is what is helping me lose weight. When you first get ready to play, you get on the balance board and it weighs you and gives you’re your BMI index. The Wii Fit is painfully honest, if your obese, it tells you. Then it asks you to set a goal to lose weight and graphs you every time you get on and reminds you how much you have to lose to reach your goal. It’s a great motivator. The exercises and the games are a blast. The balance board reacts to your body movements. The funniest is the yoga section. There is yoga pose called the Tree Pose where you have to balance on 1 leg. It’s going to take a lot of practice to get a good score on that one.

The Wii is well worth the money. Instead of just sitting around and watching TV, we are having a ball playing games and I look forward to achieving my weight lose goal.
