I am a M.M. member who has done the Chicago Marathon and now thinking, what now? I completed the goal, finishing the marathon. along the way I met many people just like me who weren't athletic and together we enouraged each other toward the goal. it is a high part of my life, this journey and the struggles to get there healthy. It was hard. I didn't watch the foods I ate and as a result, I shaped up and lost some weight and gained muscle, but I would like to see the scales go down about 10 lbs. This is probably harder than the marathon training. I still am committed to the changes the marathon training brought to me, that is, I just MUST either run ( I do 2:1 run/walk intervals) or crosstrain every day except Friday. Even if I am tired, somehow I drag myself into closet, put on clothes and the next thing I know, I am out the door. It's as if my limbs have a mind of their own! I must bring that same discipline to my diet. I plan to do a half marathon but have not signed up to do MS Blues yet, I may do Mardi Gras in New Orleans because it's FLAT! I enjoyed blogging during my training, it kept me motivated. I hope this can help me change the way I shop for groceries and plan meals.

How do you diet when you are
How do you diet when you are exercising so frequently? If you count calories, do you exceed the 2,000 a day suggested?
I ask because I used to run track. My coach (I was in hs at the time) encouraged us to eat bananas, strawberries and other foods that had potassium. He didn't tell us to count calories, but I did to help me stay lean and fit. I still watch what I eat, but I'm not exercising as much now as I used to.
Do you have to eat more, or do you stick with a low-cal diet?
