Encouraging Results

Encouragement can come from a good many places, but my favorite is results. This week has been a good one for me as far as visible, if small, results go. To start with, I was out at a park feeding the ducks with my wife and son and I spotted a bit of playground equipment that I suspected would work to try to do some pull ups. I hadn't tried doing a pull up in almost a year, and the last attempt was rather disheartening. While I didn't quite manage a full pull up this weekend, I came awful close, and suspect that if I keep at it over the next little while I might be able to break that barrier in short order. I have been considering putting a pull up bar in the garage since that near victory.

The other encouraging result that I noticed this week was the recognition that I'm using the last hole in my 44" waist size belt, with room to spare. That noted, I wandered out and quickly tried on a few belts and left the store with a 40" waist size belt that should do well for me at present, even if I have to let it out a couple notches because I lost control at the buffet.

What results do you see that encourage you to stay on track?

Maybe it's just a woman thing ... I don't know ... but I have "fat clothes" and "skinny clothes" and I always feel buoyant on days when I look good in my skinny clothes. That doesn't sound like much, I know, but so much of staying on track with diet and exercise is how you perceive yourself. It's so easy to give up when you feel like you aren't improving! So when I can fit in my "skinny" clothes, I feel like I've accomplished something, that I've stayed on task for one more day.
