Dick Morgan Memorial Ride Information
Note from the Jackson Metro Cyclists:
Come join us for a beautiful fall ride and to honor the life of Dick Morgan, cyclist and Senior Olympian.
JMC and the Baptist Healthplex are co-sponsoring the Dick Morgan Memorial Ride on Saturday, Oct. 18. There will be 4 rides - all starting at 8:00 a.m.
The routes will feature portions of the Natchez Trace Parkway and peaceful Hinds and Madison county roads. Cyclists can choose from a 20 mile, 35 mile, 56 mile and 62.5 mile ride, all starting at the Baptist Healthplex in Clinton.
Dick Morgan was a champion Senior Olympics cyclist and swimmer. He was enjoying a ride on the Natchez Trace Parkway last fall when he was struck by a motorist, and subsequently died.
JMC is sponsoring this club ride in our continuing efforts to promote our “Share the Road” message and cycling safety. JMC added this ride to our club schedule after the arrival of Hurricane Gustav prompted us to cancel the Labor Day Trekkin' the Trace club ride.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. All four rides start at 8 a.m. and include a memorial "zone of silence" for a short distance in memory of Dick.
The cost is $5 for JMC members; $15 for non-members includes JMC membership for the rest of the year.
A surprise ride gift for all registered cyclists will make its very first appearance!
A hearty lunch from PigOut in Ridgeland and rest stop refreshments are included. In addition, a family Wellness and Fitness Expo will be conducted at the Baptist Healthplex.
Bring a friend and family members! The 20 mile ride route is especially designed for beginners.
