New York City is now running advertisements, urging adults to consume no more than 2,000 calories a day.
Should Mississippi run an ad campaign like this?
Here's the article on the NYC campaign:

Yes and no. The problem
Yes and no.
The problem with saying "STAY UNDER THUS AND SUCH CALORIES" is the fact that such an approach sets up a "cold turkey" scenario for most people.
Use me as an example. I was consuming, on average, around 6500 calories a day. So, I would have to cut more than half of my daily intake of food out to fall at or below 2,000. Imagine the HUGE psychological hurdle that would cause for most people, not to mention the potential physiological shock of depleting that many calories over a short period of time. As it turns out, the human body is not a fan of change...especially drastic change.
I am working with several people in effective calorie counting. I have them collect baseline data for a week and then we set weekly goals that usually encompass a 5% reduction in intake over the previous week. Eventually, they'll arrive at 2000 or less and be much better equipped for success.
YES AND................
Yes and we should make restaurants post the calories like they are doing in NYC..... I think you would think twice about those goodies at places like Shipley Donuts, or Starbucks if you knew just how many calories they had per serving and those HUGE portions have to have more than one serving ...
At least we would be putting the information out there and letting folks make a educated choice..... But you know what some folks just will NEVER get it and never change their eating habits even if you hit them over the head with the information.....
