South Beach Diet
I have always been skeptical of the Adkins diet. It seemed to me that you could eat too much fat as long as you ate enough protein and cut out the carbs. Everyone I knew that had been on Adkins lost weight, then gained it back once they went off the diet. I never knew much about the South Beach Diet, accept that it was similar to Adkins.
Well, desperate times call for desperate measures. I have been exercising and eating healthier since the beginning of the year. While I had lost about 17 lbs, my weight loss plateaued. After weeks of seeing no change in the scale (except up a few times!), I decided I had to do something. I have done Weight Watchers so many times and failed, and I didn't want to go that road again. I am horrible with keeping up with points. So I started researching the South Beach Diet. I realized it has different phases. In the first phase, I would not be allowed to have carbs -- bread, sugar, fruit, everything I consider "good." But those things are slowly introduced back into the diet so that you don't gain the weight back.
So, I bought the book and started the diet a week ago. The first few days, I felt like I would starve to death, but I wasn't really hungry...it was all cravings! Planning meals and snacks helps keeps me from grabbing food on the go. I've started cooking more at home and eating out less. The best news...I have lost 6 lbs in the first week! And a whole inch off of my waist! One of my friends pointed out to me that those 6 lbs is like carrying around a newborn baby all the time. That really put things into perspective.
I am determined to get all this excess weight off! So far I am very pleased with South Beach.
Anyone else out there a South Beacher?

Hi Dr. Wifey, I have had a hard time distinguishing the Adkins' from So. Beach...can you help me get started?
good for you
I'm so glad you're doing well. I don't think there's a one size fits all diet out there, but South Beach really helps me because, like you said, there's not really any counting involved. I don't have to buy some pre packaged nasty crap (I've tried Nutrisystem - don't go there) and I can eat out with my friends and family. It's all about planning ahead and I've noticed that now, after being on South Beach for over a month, that it really is starting to just be a habit for me to eat this way and I'm not having to put as much thought into it as before. Which is good for me. The less I have to think, the better! HA!
Hey, did you see this post?
Hey, did you see this post? It's got a recipe that's low carb. Would this fit in the South Beach diet plan?
