Golden Dragon in Madison
The Chinese buffet is one of the easiest ways for me to completely destroy my resolve to eat healthy, and while the comparatively small offering at lunch at Golden Dragon certainly has it's share of things I simply should not eat (but will) I find it to put more emphasis in vegetables in it's dishes than most of the buffets I have frequented in the past while.
Beyond the apparent nod toward health that shows up at this little restaurant, this is yet another place where the staff is very small and the service very personal. Included in that service is a fairly regular occurrence of the owner, who is also the cook, coming out of the kitchen to check that everything is alright, shake hands with his customers and offer to cook up virtually anything anyone wants that isn't on the buffet, off the menu or otherwise.
My friends and I have taken advantage of this offer on a couple occasions to suit our interest in getting a spicy Asian dish and been very pleased with the care that goes into the food and the attention given to our requests. I also noted the owner's interest in serving a quality product when I asked about a ginger dish recently and he recommended getting that at another part of the year when the ginger would be better. I feel rather certain that asking for something healthy would lead to a short conversation that would end in a full belly and a fantastic taste experience.
